River Bridge - Track Design and Engineering Management
The Project
The River Bridge project was a track on/track off scheme based near Crowhurst and Oxted in Surrey. Guided Rail assisted the project by providing the track design services and Track Design CRE duties. We aided in providing the proposed track alignment and associated design work to allow for the removal of the existing timber underbridge which was replaced with a new, precast concrete structure.
The Problem
The project came to fruition as the underbridge that was supporting the track had become life-expired and required replacement. In order to achieve this, the existing trackwork needed to be removed and then replaced once the new bridge had been installed. To complete this project, a track design was required which is when Guided Rail became involved to offer our services.
The Solution
Guided Rail’s work on the project began in early December 2020 by carrying out scoping of the topographic survey. By gaining a better understanding of the project and landscape, we were able to produce the trackwork designs.
As required by Network Rail, a Form A (Approval of Principle) and Form B (Certificate of Design & Checking) were submitted along with the AFC designs. Once the designs had been given the stamp of approval under CDM regulations, the track installation could begin.
The Outcome
With Guided Rail overseeing track engineering activities as Track Design CRE, construction was successfully completed in February 2021.
